Event Temps

Our Amazing Event Temps are warming up and ready to support the fantastic runners on 24th March 2024 at the Bournemouth Bay Run.

We have been working hard behind the scenes, providing admin support, and preparing envelopes for each runner with Race Numbers, Safety Instructions and more.

Our Event Temps will also be there on the day, ready to help and support around the route, and we can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes!

Good luck to everyone running!

Dorset Mind

Dorset Mind is a local mental health charity who has been raising awareness and providing mental health support in our local communities since 1946.  Although Dorset Mind became affiliated with National Mind in 2005, they are an independently registered charity, remaining focussed on supporting Dorset people, their needs and the mental health challenges they face.

As an organisation, their aim is to support mental health by:

  • Connecting Minds through talking, communication and partnerships
  • Changing Minds through education and awareness campaigns
  • Supporting Minds through providing life changing services

The charity takes pride in living by their values of always trying to be honest, open, passionate and experienced.

Dorset Mind offers services to both adults and young people to prevent worsening mental health illness, to aid recovery and to help people to maintain positive wellbeing.

The charity’s 1-2-1 and group support includes Active Monitoring (CBT-type coaching), Mentoring, Counselling, and a wide range of peer support groups and social prescriptions such as ecotherapy and activity. These help people regain social skills and develop confidence.

Exciting volunteer opportunities are available across all areas of the organisation.

Dorset Mind’s vision is to create a community where living with and talking about mental health becomes acceptable for everyone.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is a charity, providing extraordinary care to patients and their loved ones facing a life-limiting illness across East Dorset & Purbeck. We offer a range of free services aimed at helping people to live well through their illness, closer to home. These include:
– Day hospices, virtual and in person
– Creative arts & wellbeing support
– Lymphoedema clinic
– Breathlessness clinic
– Bereavement & family support
– Complementary therapy
– Hospice at home

Every year we support around 600 local people and to do this we need to raise over £2.3m every year. Without these funds we could not exist. Our important work increases people’s physical and social well-being, reduces isolation and loneliness, supports people to stay in their homes longer, and alleviates the huge pressures on family and carers.

Age UK North, South and West Dorset exists to enable older people to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing in older life. We achieve this by providing direct services to enable older people to remain independent and enjoying life, organising activities to create opportunities for an enriched social life, and by working with older people to campaign and have their voices heard.

The work that we do reaches the most vulnerable and isolated people in our communities and ensure they get the support they need, be that free information and advice, attending social groups or finding companionship with our fantastic befriending service. Our Services have seen a huge demand supporting the older population through the current cost of living crisis with making day to day living more affordable, through our free benefits team, and providing them with information and advice.

We are a local independent charity, meaning all the funds we raise and the support we give, goes back into the local communities we serve.

Helping Homeless Veterans UK started as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in September 2019. Less than two years later, we became a registered charity with the Charities Commission (number 1195521).

With many years of experience of engaging with Local Authorities using legislation to help house our homeless veterans, there was a definite need for our organisation which has been a welcome addition to the Veterans Community.

Helping Homeless Veterans UK helps any Veteran of HM Armed Forces who find themselves Homeless or needing proffessional guidance with legislation to prevent Homelessness.

We are a Charity that relies solely on donations from the general public as well as grants from companies and organisations which allow us to provide the complete package for those that need our assistance.

100% of all public donations are spent on helping our veterans and none of our team are salaried. We have a team of trustees, ambassadors and volunteers who dedicate their free time to helping our country’s homeless veterans.

RNLI

The RNLI is proud to be one of the chosen charities for the 2023 Bournemouth Bay Run. RNLI lifeboats in Poole and Mudeford protect communities along the racecourse through our 24-hour search and rescue service. Our Dorset lifeguard teams also protect everyone during busy peak spring and summer seasons, helping everyone to enjoy the beautiful local coastline safely. The water remains an unpredictable environment that can catch people out. People will always need our help and the RNLI will always be there to answer that call.

It costs nearly 200 million pounds on average a year to run the RNLI, all of which is generously donated by the public. That’s why by choosing the RNLI as your charity this year, you could help support the RNLI to keep launching and save everyone we can.

Bournemouth Bay Runs Environmental Aim

Overall aim

The Bournemouth Bay Run is committed to making the event as environmentally friendly as possible.  One of the main affecters are single use plastics, at many running events plastic bottles are the most widely used form of hydration for participants. This year we are using boxed water and paper cups at all the water stations and canned water at the finish funnel to eliminate the use of single use plastic bottles and cups.

Recycling

There will be drop nets provided at points after each water station for the paper cups and all water station marshals are briefed to pick up any dropped cups from around their water station. These nets are picked up and all the contents will be recycled. At the finish there will be recycling bins for cans and litter pickers throughout Pier Approach.

Single use plastic

As mentioned previously in the overall aim there will be no plastic cups or bottles along the course or at the finish. We have chosen to not have our t-shirts bagged, they come in cardboard boxes. Previously our medals have been singularly bagged, now we have them bagged in 20’s. We have also opted for an online goody bag instead of a physical one, this way the participants get offers and adverts online without using unnecessary of plastic and paper.

Sustainable transport

Participants are advised through social media and in their race packs to use public transport, carshare, or walk or cycle to the event. There is a luggage marquee provided for participants to safely store their belongings if they do decide to opt for sustainable transport, they can leave their personal belongings and clothes in a safe place.

Beryl Bikes

Why not consider hiring a Beryl to get to the race? The UK’s leading micromobility provider has partnered with the Bournemouth Bay run, to inspire more people to take up sustainable travel options, reduce road congestion, and improve air quality and public health.

Simply download the Beryl App to register and unlock a vehicle, enjoy your ride, and park in one of the marked Beryl bays. If you are spectating, there are plenty of bays along the route, so you can easily find the perfect spot to cheer runners on!

To find out more about how to use Beryl visit their website or check out the map below for bay locations.
